This would involve a one off exception that would not be repeated. This would allow you to stick to the original idea, that did seem to matter to the project, rather than change to a lottery system that compromises the original idea and the significance of a local, community school. Either way involved a deviation from what you were advocating but one solution involves far less ideological compromise

A major point of creating a free school must surely be to trim the inefficiencies off the top down rules and stop heavy handed bureaucracy getting in the way of common sense. It obviously makes sense for there to be an exception for founders' children.
