Start of Term

Full details of what's expected of parents and pupils at the beginning of Michaelmas term will be sent to parents in the last week of August, along with other useful information. However, the provisional plans, subject to confirmation, are as follows:

Wednesday 7th September

All pupils will be expected to arrive at the school by 7.30am at the latest (gates open at 7.15am). Address: The West London Free School, Cambridge Grove, Hammersmith, London W6 0LB. Coaches will bring the children back to the school at 8pm where their parents can pick them up. Children should bring a packed lunch.

At 9.30am there will be a whole-school photograph, followed by a rehearsal from 10.30am-11.30am of Friday's official opening ceremony. In the afternoon, pupils will walk to St Paul's Church, Queen Caroline Street, Hammersmith, London W6 9JJ, where they'll continue to rehearse for the opening ceremony and prepare for an inter-form singing competition from 4pm-5pm. Parents are welcome to attend the competition from 4pm and parents can pick their children up from St Paul's Church at 5pm. (Pupils will not be brought back to the scool afterwards.) Lunch will be provided at the school and all children wil be expected to eat the school lunch.

Clothing required: Full uniform (formal, i.e. skirts for girls).

Friday 9th September

All pupils will be expected to arrive at the school by 8.30am (gates open at 8.15am). The opening ceremony will take place from 9.30am-10.30am. All parents should have received an invitation in the post and those who'd like to come should RSVP to info@wlfs.org. (Note: The opening ceremony will be covered by representatives of the press and broadcast media and all pupils and parents present should expect to be photographed/filmed.) After the ceremony, all pupils will be taken by coach to the University of Westminster's Sports Ground, Cavendish Road, Chiswick, London W4 3UH, where they'll prepare for an inter-form sports competition which will take place from 3pm-5.45pm. All parents are welcome to attend the competition. Those that do can take their children home at 5.45pm, while those that don't can pick their children up from the school, where children will be returned by coach, at 6.15pm. Lunch will be provided at the Sports Ground, paid for by the school.

Clothing required: Full uniform (formal) and sports kit.

Monday 12th September

All pupils will be expected to arrive at the school by 8.30am (gates open at 8am), on this day and every day thereafter until the end of term (Friday 16th December). The school day will officially end at 3.50pm, but all children will be expected to stay behind to participate in our wide range of extra-curricular activities. Parents can pick them up at 5pm on this day and every day thereafter (except Fridays when children will go home at 3.50. All pupils will be expected to eat school lunches, with children only allowed to bring packed lunches in exceptional circumstances and with the express permission of the Deputy Headmaster. Breakfast will be available for all those who want it from 8am.

Clothing required: Full uniform.

Pick Up and Drop Off Policy

Parents are welcome to drop their children off and pick them up, but we would ask them not do so by car under any circumstances. Glenthorne Road is a one-way street and Cambridge Grove is a cul-de-sac so any unauthorised dropping off or picking up by car will cause traffic congestion and make us unpopular with our neighbours.

School Lunches

Information about how to pay for school lunches – as well as how to apply for free lunches if your child is eligible – will be provided in the information packs being sent out in the last week of August.

School Uniform

Details of our Uniform and Appearance Policy, including the difference between formal and informal uniform and the sports kit required for boys and girls, can be found here.

The school uniform supplier is Billings & Edmonds. Uniforms can be purchased on-line at www.billingsandedmonds.co.uk or bought from their shop at 112 Chiswick High Road, Chiswick, London W4 1PU. (Tel: 020-8742-0201.)

Most items are currently available and all will be available by the end of August.
